Johanna M. Torres
Johanna M. Torres received her J.D. from the University of Puerto Rico. She is licensed to practice in Virginia, Maryland and Puerto Rico. She earned her B.A. in Forensic Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico.
Johanna describes her passion for defending immigrants as having "her heart at the border". Her interest in immigration started when she worked as a Counselor at a shelter for battered women. She teamed up with the Center for Dominican Women, a nonprofit organization, and assisted immigrant women victims of domestic violence in procuring relief through the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and U-visas. Before joining The Law Firm of Hedi Framm-Anton in San Francisco, California, she worked with Montagut and Sobral, P.C. in Virginia and interned with the Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition in Washington, D.C. Johanna specializes in family petitions, waivers of inadmissibility and consular processing. Her experience also includes defense of unaccompanied minors, asylum, DACA, U-visas, VAWA, and deportation defense, among others. Johanna is a native Spanish speaker and a beginner Portuguese speaker.
